Athena was born in a curious manner. When Zeus was marrried to Metis, an oracle (a person who foretells the future) prophesied: "You will have a daughter and then a son who will depose you, just as you deposed Cronus."
Fearful, Zeus killed his wife and after a time called upon his son Hephaestus, to free a spirit that was inside him.
The great metalworker then opened his father's head with a machete and out came Athena, a great female warrior, known as the Goddess of Wisdom.
