Story 89 - Rounding Out Marina (Part Three)
In this three-part story, Mauricio describes how he orients his storywriters so they can fill out the personalities of the characters he creates based on his children -- Nimbus (I), Nick Nope (II) and Marina (III).
As for my daughter Marina, a teenager, she is also developing personality traits that can be used to round out her namesake character in the comics.
In addition to Marina's talent for the arts, especially drawing, which she does very well, she has now taken to directing her brothers and friends, both boys and girls, in short plays. She started with skits, which she wrote and rehearsed with them, but after receiving a well-equipped video camera for her birthday, she turned to filming. She sets up the script, puts the kids through rehearsal and directs the film - with an iron hand.
Her little brother Mauricio usually threatens to walk out in the middle of the rehearsals because he can't stand the director's bossiness. She then has to beg him to stay since there usually aren't very many in the cast and the lack of even one person can ruin the production. Sometimes I have to interfere to calm them down.
Mystery stories, dramas, adventures, films with tricks or just simple news reports are now part of Marina's own video library.
Another real-life characteristic of Marina's which could be added to the comic character is her skill with computer programs of the "print" type. She composes easily and creatively all sorts of "products," from party invitations, notices and large banners to news sheets with information, gossip and photos of everything and everyone in the house. Her little newsletters are very pretty and original.
As a teen, Marina is also into the fad of the moment, from Spice Girls or Leonardo di Caprio to The Backstreet Boys. She surfs the Internet for information and pictures of her idols and collects their photos and posters, then goes looking around the house for places to hang them - always a cause for discussion with the holders of power and the home decorating plan (her parents).
She's starting to be interested in perfume and beauty products and talks about them with her friends. Now when I travel, I am "ordered" to forget those flawless dolls (which I used to bring). But I can't buy clothes for her anymore, so it's a difficult moment for her father. Maybe it's easier for her mother. I must ask Alice about this.
Marina doesn't have a boyfriend yet. But she comments that some of the boys she knows or sees are "gorgeous."
After a while, I'll let you know more about the characteristics of these three kids of mine - Mauro, Mauricio and Marina -- so that we can study ways to round out even more the personalities of their comic characters -- Nimbus, Nick Nope and Marina.
