During the ceremony, Mauricio de Sousa, Monica's creator, also received an unprecedented title. This honor makes him the first UNICEF Writer for Kids in the world

UNICEF representative for Brazil, Marie-Pierre Poirier, said during the press conference:

"Mônica was chosen by UNICEF due to the great influence she has exerted on kids, teachers and families for over 44 years, teaching values, such as friendship, the importance of education as well as family coexistence."

The alliance between Mauricio de Sousa Studios and the UNICEF began in 1994, when Monica, and her gang starred in a special edition of the “The Statute of the Child and Adolescent.” Monica's Gang comic books has promoted UNICEF messages for kids for many years.

The Cartoonist said he was overwhelmed:- "Being recognized by UNICEF is an exceptional honor for me and my creation, Monica.
